Welcome to that time of year where easy air fryer snacks are a must to feed hungry children (and adults!) at home. One family favorite is pot stickers, also called air fryer dumplings. And the best way to cook these delicious treats is in your air fryer!
These yummy treats go by many different names: air fryer dumplings, Chinese dumplings, air fry potstickers, and air fry dumplings. No matter what you call them, they are a quick and simple-to-make snack that most people love!
Air frying pot stickers are a great way to prepare them because they turn them into crispy dumplings while keeping the inside hot and chewy. If you have not used this tried and true method, you will want to the next time you cook this quick snack.
Can Potstickers Be Air Fried?
Yes! Using an air fryer is actually the easiest way to make potstickers. It is also a healthier option than pan-frying dumplings in oil. Sure, pan-frying gives you tasty potstickers, but also a ton of fat. Air-frying gives you tasty potstickers without the added fat!
An air fryer circulates hot air to cook your food. You place food in a traditional-looking fry basket and lower it into the machine. Then when you turn it on, hot air rapidly circulates around the food to cook it.
This is great technology because it can make your food taste deep-fried, with less oil and fat to worry about. It is also safer than trying to cook these over a pan of hot oil! No spills or splattering to worry about!
What Air Fryer Model Should I Use?
Are you in the market for an excellent air fryer? There are different varieties on the market. Some air fryers come with only a square basket to cook, while others are combination machines with things like toaster ovens. You can even find air fryers attached to outdoor griddles (which is fun for summer get-togethers!)
There are some great models of air fryer on the market. They include:
- Cosori Air Fryer
- Ninja AF161 Max XL Air Fryer
- Cuisinart AirFryer Convection Toaster Oven
- NuWave Brio Smart Air Fryer
- Blackstone Griddle with Air Fryer and Hood
How Long Do You Need to Cook Potstickers in an Air Fryer?
Generally speaking, you need to cook potstickers in an air fryer at 370 degrees for about 9 to 10 minutes. Halfway through the cook, shake the basket gently. If the potstickers need a little more oil, lightly spritz them with your cooking spray or oil sprayer.
By the way, if you don’t know what an oil sprayer is, I tell you more about it below.
How to Make Air Fryer Potstickers or Dumplings
You can make a batch of air fryer potstickers or dumplings in under 20 minutes, including a homemade dipping sauce mixture!
All you do is preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees F. Then, place the dumplings in the bottom of your air fryer basket, and spritz with cooking spray or oil.
Be sure they are placed in a single layer. It is okay if they are touching in parts, but you do not want them to be stacked on top of one another. This will prevent the air fryer air from moving around each dumpling, resulting in an uneven cook.
Cook the dumplings for approximately 5 minutes before gently shaking the basket. This ensures that all dumplings are getting evenly cooked and have that delicious crispy outer shell. If you think they need a little more oil, spritz them again.
Place the air fryer basket in place and cook for 4-5 more minutes. You want to make sure that they are a toasty brown color before pulling them.
Let them cool for a minute or two, and serve with your favorite dipping sauce! Or make mine, since it is simple and easy to do! (My potsticker sauce recipe is just below.)
Cooking Spray vs. Oil Sprayer
When making air fryer foods, you may need to spray them with a little oil to crisp up the outer layer of what is being cooked. This is generally true for air fryer potstickers.
But when using an air fryer and light oil spray, the food does not need nearly as much oil to crisp up as other cooking methods. This leads to both delicious and healthier foods!
With air fryer recipes, you’ll often see using an “oil sprayer” as an option. But what’s the difference between cooking spray and oil sprayer?
I probably don’t need to tell you what store-bought cooking spray is. It is an easy “go-to” spray to use with all of your favorite foods.
One cool thing about the store-bought spray is finding many different types. There is a regular vegetable spray, canola oil spray, avocado oil, and vegan versions like ghee spray. There are even flavored versions, like butter, if that is your thing.
The most obvious benefit of an already made spray is the convenience. You don’t have to pour oil into any canister, preventing messy counters. You can also try out different ones to see what you prefer.
An oil sprayer is something that many hard-core cooks love to have in their kitchen. It takes your favorite cooking oil and turns it into a spray. You fill the canister with whatever oil you want to use, then place the lid back on. Use the pump to spritz your food while cooking, and voila! Instant oil sprayer!
Air Fryer Potsticker Recipe
Are you ready to make this quick, delicious snack or meal? The following is not only one of my favorite recipes but also one of the best, easy air fryer recipes you can find.
- 8 oz. bag of frozen vegetable, pork, or chicken potstickers (try Ling Ling Potstickers)
1. Preheat the air fryer to 370 degrees F for approximately 5 minutes.
2. Place the frozen potstickers in a single layer on the bottom of the air fryer basket.
3. Cook the dumplings for about 5 minutes. Then gently shake the basket, spraying them with a bit more cooking spray or oil.
4. Cook the potstickers for an additional 4 to 5 minutes.
5. While the dumplings are cooking, prepare the dipping sauce (see below).
6. Once the potstickers are cooked, remove them from the basket and let them cool for 1 to 2 minutes.
Dumpling Dipping Sauce Recipe
Not everyone has a favorite dipping sauce or maybe you want to try making something different. The following is a super simple dipping sauce to serve with your air fryer dumplings.
Try this simple recipe if you do not have a great “go-to” dipping sauce, like soy ginger sauce, to serve with your air fryer frozen potstickers! Of course, it can be made in just a couple of minutes after grabbing your ingredients.
It uses only six simple ingredients: water, soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic powder, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (optional for heat). You can also throw in sesame seeds if you wish!
Here is how to make it:
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/8 cup maple syrup (or a maple syrup substitute)
- 1/2 – 3/4 tsp garlic powder (to taste, or use 2 minced garlic cloves)
- 1/2 tsp rice vinegar
- red pepper flakes (optional, to taste, start with a small pinch)
- sesame seeds (optional)
Since the ingredients should already be at room temperature, mix them in a medium-size bowl and let them marinate. If adding sesame seeds, mix the other ingredients first, then add the sesame seeds and incorporate a final time.
Throwing a Party?
Are you throwing a bash soon and want some yummy, easy food ideas? Of course, you want to serve air fryer potstickers but consider adding these treats to the list. They are just as easy to make and just as satisfying!
